IMGP1481
The races would start on Sunday so we had a couple of days to get used to the COLD.
This first raceday was a great start with winds between 25 and 30 knots. 133 competitors had registered, including 10 women, 32 Juniors, 38 Youths and 53 Masters, the largest fleet of this event. This first day two elimination rounds could be surfed. Everything was so overwhelming that Jean Patrick missed his first U17 group start. With only 14th years old he ended with a 6th place in the second round. The youngster of the team, Aron Etmon with only 11 years old, did great in the strong wind and ended the day with a 29th and a good 16th place. Perry van der Wolde had to compete 52 masters and grandmasters and had tough competition. He ended the first day with a 22nd and 33rd place.
The second race day with a rather pessimistic wind forecast for Tuesday onwards, the Race Committee intended to get in the maximum amount of racing possible and at the scheduled start time of 11.00 it was looking good - 13 to 16 knots on the water. Only one race could be done this day. Jean Patrick was not able to reach the winners final that day and scored a 11th place. Aron had a problem with the light wind and was not able to qualify and was eliminated. Perry van der Wolde was able to reach the losers finale and ended as 22nd in his heat.
Day three no starts could be done by the lack of wind. A nice day in the sun on the beach.

On day four the wind blew again with a steady 15 knots. One elimination round could be done for all groups. A second elimination round was started for only the masters and Youth, but during the first semi-final of the masters ton wind settled down and the race had to be cancelled. This race was postponed to the next day. Jean Patrick scored that day a 12, Aron a 17 and Perry a 23rd place.
On the fifth and final day we could find no wind in morning, but in the afternoon the wind picked up and the postponed race for the masters could be finished. The masters were done and a elimination round for the ladies and juniors was done. JP was not able to reach the winners finale, but won the losers finale and with this he minimized the damage and was able to climb up one rank and ended as 9th in the U17 class. Great surfing for this 14th year old.

Aron Etmon was not able to qualify for the next round and lost his first place to his competitor with only 3 points difference and he ended as second. Perry ended his last race with a 19th place and ended his championships with a 27th place.
Curacao will organize the next Worlds and we have had a lot of fun and were able to grow in experience, speed and tactics. All of this was made possible with the financial help of our sponsors: ABC Marine, Insel Air, Princess, Goisco and subsponsors ACU , Benneton, DHL, Florida Express, Korpodeko, Mammoet Printing, Napa , Netvision, KLM and Price Waterhouse Coopers.
A great racing week and a big thumb up for the Hyeres Windsurf Organization and the IFCA!
